There is no denying that the advent of digital technology has forever changed the way we live our daily lives. The majority of people wake to the alarm on their smartphones, and may even proceed to navigate toward new locations with the help of popular mapping apps. Volvo, in its newest partnership with Google, wants to take it a step further. Within two years, the next generation of Android infused Volvo cars will launch. The company says that basically any app that is indispensable will be available and integrated into the Volvo infotainment platform. The goal is to either incorporate or create apps that offer services in and around the car.
A recent press release from Volvo says that smart partnerships are the future of the auto industry. A Volvo rep says that having Android as the base operating system will allow drivers to customize their in-car experience.
Recent Volvo models have already been updated with Google Local Search, a location based app to help drivers locate businesses in the area, and most efficient routes, but the new updates will go above and beyond the technology that currently exists.
Experts say the updates will imbue Volvo with the same level of speed, responsiveness and functionality that you already enjoy with the apps you use on a regular basis. In other words, soon your vehicle could be a convenient extension of your smartphone.
